چکیده
In this study, we used khat (Catha edulis) leaf extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent for the biosynthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). The rapid color change solution to pale yellow UV-visible absorption peak at 322 nm confirmed initial formation ZnO NPs. FTIR spectrum analysis revealed contribution bioreduction Zn2+ ions stretching vibration 480 cm-1 also confirms XRD showed crystallinity hexagonal wurtzite structure size synthesized NPs calculated using Debye-Scherrer formula was found be equal 17 nm. Antibacterial efficacy green-produced against Gram-positive Gram-negative microorganisms tested. It has greatest inhibition zone (23 mm) E. coli, but least activity S. pneumoniae (15 mm).

BACKGROUND Catha edulis Forsk. (Khat) is traditionally used for treating various disorders. Nevertheless there are no reports of any scientific assessment of its psychopharmacological properties. OBJECTIVE Therefore, the current study was designed to evaluate the antidepressant-like activity of Khat ethanolic extract using established animal models of depression and stress. MATERIALS AND ME...
متن کاملGreen synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles using Seaweed aqueous extract and evaluation of antibacterial and ecotoxicological activity
Abstract Green synthesized nanomaterials have garnered much attention due to their economic and ecofriendly benefits over common chemical methods of synthesis. In the present study, zinc oxide nanoparticles with an average diameter of 16.51 nm were successfully biosynthesized using the aqueous extract of the red seaweed Hypnea musciformis. The morphology, purity and quality of biosynthesiz...
متن کاملCharacterization of the Antinociceptive Mechanisms of Khat Extract (Catha edulis) in Mice
This study investigated the antinociceptive mechanisms of khat extract (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg, i.p.) in four pain models: two thermic (hot plate, tail-flick) and two chemical (acetic acid, formalin) models. Male mice were pretreated intraperitoneally (i.p.) with the opioid receptor blocker naloxone (5 mg/kg), the cholinergic antagonist atropine (2 mg/kg), the selective α1 blocker prazosin (1 ...
متن کاملGenotoxic effect of Catha edulis (khat) crude extract after sub-chronic administration in rats.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotoxic effects of a crude extract of khat (Catha edulis, Forsk) leaves in rats. Two groups were fed khat crude extract, 1000 and 2000mg/kg body weight, for 90 days and were compared with a control group. The alkaline (pH>13) version of comet assay was used in this study. However, no previous published work has been undertaken and showed the effect of...
متن کاملSevere rhabdomyolysis associated with catha edulis(khat) use
Severe rhabdomyolysis is a rare complication of exposure to the recreational drug khat. Adverse reactions to khat that have been reported in the literature include myocardial infarction and reversible vasoconstriction syndrome. The active ingredient, cathinone, is a naturally occurring beta-ketone amphetamine that may be responsible for this severe catecholaminergic response. Here we report a c...
